Olympic and European gold medallist Carl Hester wowed crowds at the Equerry Bolesworth International Horse Show this week, as he took the opening class in style, riding the super talented Barolo.
The Berkeley Group CDI three-star grand prix was Bolesworth’s first international dressage competition and it didn’t disappoint the huge crowds who’d come to watch a fiercely fought international class.
Carl and Barolo’s score of 74.24% saw the combination continue their success, having recently won at last month’s Royal Windsor Horse Show. Gareth Hughes finished second on Don Carissimo with 72.92%, while Gillian Davison and Alfranco took third with 70.38%.
Denmark’s Anders Dahl showcased his consistency with fourth and fifth spots on Selten HW and Sir Donato, respectively, with New Zealand’s Wendi Williamson sixth aboard Dejavu MH.
Masterclass Demonstration with Uthopia
Following the opening class, Carl gave a very informative ‘questions and answers’ demonstration with the surprised appearance of his Olympic team gold medalist horse Uthopia, ridden by Charlotte Dujardin.
Invitational Inter 1 Freestyle, sponsored by Kingsley Equestrian
Charlotte would be back in the saddle a few minutes later, for the final class of the day, the Invitational Inter 1 Freestyle, sponsored by Kingsley Equestrian. Riding Hawtins Delicato, the pair won comfortably with a stunningly beautiful display and a score of 74.75%.
