EQUESTRIAN PORTRAITS

Through the eyes of a photographer and artist, my work captures the soul and personality of some very special horses. Often misinterpreted as paintings, I work from digital files to create bespoke pieces of work, presented in beautiful personalised, hand-made frames or on contemporary aluminium.

What happens at a photo shoot?

Scottish counrty estate for an equine photoshootPrior to the photo session, I’ll call and chat about what you would like to achieve from the shoot.  Each session usually takes an hour.  But nothing is rushed. When I have the images I need, I go back to the studio to start creating your bespoke portrait.

How do I book?

Please complete the contact form below and I’ll be back in touch to discuss my availability. Once this has been confirmed, I’ll ask for a £295 non-refundable booking fee to be made, to secure the booking.

WHAT EXPERIENCE DO YOU HAVE WITH HORSES?

I’ve been around horses since the age of eight. First learning my horsemanship skills on an incredible yard called Bowler’s Riding School, based in Freshfield, Merseyside. It’s still an ABRS, BHS approved school, where not only riding and yard skills are taught to an exceptionally high standard, but the place is also a lovely buzz with private liveries, students, the Riding for the Disabled and RDA Carriage Driving groups.

At the age of 14 I was lucky enough to be given a Highland pony ‘Turnin Hill Piper O’Dundee’ and with regular lessons, competed regularly at local riding club and dressage events. At 19, I went on to study at Bishop Burton Agricultural College, East Riding and came away with a 2:1 in BSc (Hons) Equine Business and International Marketing.

At college, I started to photograph some of the main equine events with my film cameras (Pentax K100 and ME Super) and after my first photograph was published in Horse and Hound (Leslie Law and Shear H20), I was hooked. For the next four years I freelanced for the magazine, as well as other dressage publications. At the same time, I worked part time as a riding instructor and yard assistant at Bowler’s Riding School, as well as learning about a new invention called the ‘World Wide Web’ and teaching myself html code!

In 2000, I launched my first equestrian website and a career in web design followed. My passion for dressage has never left me, and in the past decade, I’ve continued to ride (though not as regularly as I’d like!) having lessons from Pat Armfield. In 2019 I purchased my first fell pony, called Lathomdale Louie.

Do you do any other type of Equestrian photography?

Yes, happy to take extra photographs on the day of your shoot. Contact me for more details and to recieve a quote.
