A few week’s ago I popped over to the Tynedale Point to Point at Corbridge, Northumberland. The aim of the day was to practice my photography and to produce a selection of images for the Guild Of Photographers Image of The Month Competition.

It was a fantastic, friendly venue, that offered a challenging course to the amateur jockeys and their rides. It was also ideal for snapping, as the course opened out, allowing you to get quite close to the action.  The weather was  kind, no Beast from the East had yet hit and as the sun started to set, the images started to take on a surreal look.

Image of the Month – Photography Competition

I was asked by a fellow event photographer what I was doing at the event, and when I mentioned practising – they did give me a funny look!  Even more so, when I mentioned I was collecting material for a competition. “What do you want to do that for?” the photographer replied. But that is what I do. I strive everyday to improve my craft and get better.

I was really pleased with the two awards I was granted by The Guild of Photographers this month and under the mentorship of Kevin Pengally, I’m really looking forward to progressing this year.
